Danish Series ‘The Kingdom’ From Lars von Trier to be Revived for a Third Season

The 1990s hospital drama series, The Kingdom, will be revived for a final season consisting of five episodes entitled The Kingdom Exodus, according to Deadline. Hailing from the mind of Lars von Trier (Antichrist, Breaking the Waves), the 90s drama series consisted of two seasons of four parts and was in the process of developing a third season before deaths in the program’s cast. It was then edited down to a five-hour film for Western audiences in addition to a Stephen King (It) adaptation in the form of the 2004 television series Kingdom Hospital

The Kingdom was a Danish drama series that has developed a cult following since its premiere nearly thirty years ago. The series centered around the daily inner workings of a Copenhagen hospital, particularly through the medical workers and patients in the neurosurgical sect of the busy facility. Currently, von Trier is on board for the third season of the series as a writer alongside Niels Vørsel (Europa). Additionally, von Trier will return to direct the upcoming five-episode season.

Currently, it is unknown what the cast of the revival season will feature. The upcoming third season is set to begin its production in 2021 with the aim of a premiere in 2022.
