‘Dancing With The Stars’ Season 23 Cast Revealed

It’s that time of year again. The newest cast of Dancing With The Stars has officially been announced and Variety has the official cast list, featuring two Rio Olympians, a 90s music star and a politician.

Model, actress and fashion designer Amber Rose has been paired with returning dancer Maksim Chmerkovskiy, a perennial fan-favorite dancer who’s only won one season – when he was paired ice skater Meryl Davis in the spring 2014.

Laurie Hernandez, the Olympic gymnast who was part of the Final Five US Olympic team, is also joining the cast of the new season. Hernandez will be partnered with Maksim’s brother, Valentin Chmerkovskiy, who also is a professional dancing partner who has been featured on the show at different points for its 23-season run. Valentin Chmerkovskiy has also won a season of Dancing With The Stars – the 20th season that aired in the spring of 2015 when he was paired with Rumer Willis. Could winning a mirror ball trophy, the gold team all-around medal and a silver medal for balance beam in the same year be in Hernandez’s feature? Only time will tell.

Maureen McCormick, who’s recognizable as her portrayal of Marcia Brady on The Brady Bunch, has been partnered with dancer Artem Chigvinstev. Chigvinstev has been a member of the show since its 19th season and hasn’t won a series. He’s also appeared on the United Kingdom’s version of So You Think You Can Dance, where he was a choreographer.

Little Women: LA star Terra Jole is another one of the stars competing this season and has been paired with professional dancer Sasha Farber. Farber has been a cast member on Dancing With The Stars for its 17th season, when he was paired with Snooki and for its 22nd season, when he was paired with Kim Fields.

Actress Marilu Henner has been paired with former Dancing With The Stars champion Derek Hough, who’s returning to the show this season. Henner is known for her role as Elaine O’Connor Nardo on Taxi, the sitcom that aired for four seasons on ABC and for a final season on NBC. Hough is the most decorated professional dancer of Dancing With The Stars, as he’s won seasons seven, 10, 11, 16, 17 and 21.

Vanilla Ice, the 90s rapper and host of The Vanilla Ice Project on the DIY network, has been paired with professional dancer Witney Carson. Carson has appeared in both So You Think You Can Dance, where she finished third in season nine, and Dancing With The Stars, where she won season 19 with Alfonso Ribeiro and received an Emmy nomination for her choreography.

Former professional football player Calvin Johnson has also joined the cast for the new season, where he’s been paired with dancer Lindsay Arnold. Arnold has competed on both Dancing With The Stars and So You Think You Can Dance. She joined the cast of Dancing With The Stars for the 16th season and was a member of the cast for the 21st and 22nd seasons and was the second youngest professional dancer to be a cast member in the history of the show when she was cast in season 16.

Jake T. Austin, who played Max Russo on Wizards of Waverly Place and was the original Jesus Foster on the Freeform drama The Fosters, has also joined the cast for the new season as Jenna Johnson’s partner.

Kenneth Edmonds, better known as Babyface, the well-known R&B musician and record producer, has been paired with Allison Holker, a dancer who has appeared on So You Think You Can Dance and Dancing With The Stars. Holker appeared in seasons 19 through 21 and is returning to the show for the 23rd season.

Professional race car driver James Hinchcliffe has been partnered with professional dancer Sharna Burgess. Burgess has been a member of the show since its 16th season and has yet to win. She’s come close with Nick Carter in season 21, where they placed second place.

Former Texas governor and presidential hopeful Rick Perry has been placed with Emma Slater, who’s been on the show starting in its 17th season. She wasn’t a cast member for the 22nd season but is returning for the new season and has yet to win a competition.

Ryan Lochte, the bad boy swimmer embroiled in legal problems in Rio after filing a false police report during the Olympics, has been paired with Cheryl Burke, one of the most recognized professional dancers in the history of the show and was the first professional dancer to win back-to-back seasons, which she did for seasons two and three, when she won with Drew Lachey and Emmitt Smith.

The final pair is country singer and actress Jana Kramer and dancer Gleb Savchenko. Savchenko has appeared in both the American and Russian versions of Dancing With The Stars, where he was paired with Lisa Vanderpump in the American iteration.

Dancing With The Stars has its 23rd season premiere on Monday, Sept. 12 at 8 p.m. on ABC. Erin Andrews and Tom Bergeron will be returning as hosts and Len Goodman, Bruno Tonioli, Carrie Ann Inaba and Julianne Hough will be returning as judges.
