Damon Wayans Jr. to Reprise Role on New Girl

Coach is making his way back to New Girl.

TVLine reports that Damon Wayans Jr. is in talks to return to the Fox comedy series this fall. His character, Coach, was present in New Girl’s pilot episode, but Wayans was unable to stay with the show when Happy Endings was renewed for a second season. Winston, played by Lamorne Morris, stepped in to take his place.

Now that Happy Endings has been canceled by ABC, Wayans is free to return to New Girl for an arc in the show’s third season. Series star Jake Johnson, who is currently in Atlanta filming “Let’s Be Cops” with Wayans, is thrilled by the prospect of “Coach” returning to the loft.

“I would be surprised if he doesn’t come back for a while,” Johnson has said. “There would be such funny episodes with the Coach seeing what’s happened in the past two years since he’s [been] gone.”

No word yet on precisely when Wayans will reprise his role in the comedy series, but New Girl returns September 17 on Fox.
