CW’s Superman Gets His Own Series ‘Superman and Lois Lane’

Since seeing Superman, played by Tyler Hoechlin in various episodes on the CW’s Supergirl the show is now reportedly getting its own spin-off series called Superman and Lois Lane according to Deadline.

Todd Helbing who is a former showrunner on the CW show, The Flash, is set to co-write the series after having experience writing an episode in a later season of Smallville, which also debuted and ran on the CW for 10 seasons. Helbing is also to share the Executive Producer title with Greg Berlanti, Sarah Schechter, and Geoff Johns all of whom have developed and executive producer other shows in the DC television Universe including Arrow, The Flash, Legends of Tomorrow, and Supergirl.

Hoechlin who began the role of Superman during the second season of the show Supergirl which began on October 10th, 2016, which is around the time Hoechlin announced he was leaving his previous show. The MTV series Teen Wolf which ended its 6th season in 2017. From there, Superman’s storyline within the frame of the Supergirl series has grown to see the development of Superman’s character through the various battles that have been seen over the course of Supergirl’s last four seasons from introducing Cadmus’s Metallo in season 2, the Daximite invasion (also season 2), the Worldkillers in season 3, and the crossover series of Elseworlds in season 4. It also broadened the list of characters to introduce Lois Lane, played by Elizabeth Tulloch, Jimmy Olsen played by Mehcad Brooks and Lex Luthor played by Jon Cryer, who was killed off in Supergirl’s season 4 finale.

Unlike Smallville, which is the most recent out of the long line of Superman themed television shows, focused more on Clark Kent’s life before becoming the man people would come to know him as, Superman. This new series, however, is set to be an hour- long standalone separate from the other DC shows and will showcase Clark and Lois through their partnership as a couple and the journey navigating everyday life with parenting and superhero responsibilities.

The series is still in development and there is no word yet on when the series might debut on the CW Network. Until then, we can look forward to seeing Superman and Lois in the 5-part crossover event, Crisis on Infinite Earths that is to premiere across the DC platform at the end of the 2019 year in December through January 2020.
