The CW’s Charmed has found a new sister to round out the main cast in its supernatural drama series. Deadline reports Lucy Barrett (Co-Ed, Bloom) will join the series in its fourth season, replacing Madeleine Mantock (Into the Badlands, The Tomorrow People). Mantock starred alongside Melonie Diaz (Fruitvale Station, The Cobbler) and Sarah Jeffery (Be Somebody, Daphne & Velma) since the reboot’s inception.
According to Deadline, Mantock, who played the eldest sister, Macy, departed the show at the end of season three. For three seasons, she was the third in siblings Mel (Diaz) and Maggie’s (Jeffery) Power of Three, sisters who discover they’re descendants of powerful witches following their mother’s suspicious death. As their powers awaken, they must combat various evil forces that attack their college town. Season three closed with Macy’s unfortunate death, leaving Mel and Maggie grief-stricken, which could threaten the Power of Three for years to come. Luckily, the duo will be a trio again soon enough.
Very few details regarding Barrett’s character or connection to the sisters have been revealed, according to Deadline. The series’ new showrunners, Jeffery Lieber (Don’t Look Deeper, Impulse), Nicki Renna (Grand Hotel, Franklin & Bash), and Joey Flaco (Treadstone, Sleepy Hollow) are keeping her identity close to their chests.
“Her name, backstory, powers, and connection to Mel and Maggie are being kept under wraps, because…well…it’s just more fun that way,” the three stated according to Deadline. “What we will say is…she’s an artist, with wild, unpredictable love for life and a one-of-a-kind view of the world that serves her well in her art, which is her life’s passion. She’s fun, irreverent, impulsive, strong-willed, and will bring a brand-new energy to the Power of Three,” the showrunners stated via Deadline.
In addition to Barret’s new character, the Charmed Ones will face a new threat within the magical world via Deadline. The rising evil will challenge the sisters’ fortitude, questioning whether they can find balance with a newer, less experienced, member.
According to Deadline, Lieber, Renna, and Flaco replaced former showrunners Liz Kruger (Girlfirends’ Guide to Divorce, Miami Medical) and Craig Shapiro (Salvation, Necessary Roughness). All five remain executive producers on the series along with Jennie Snyder Urman (Jane the Virgin, Something Borrowed), Ben Silverman (Mansome, EP Daily), Brad Silbering (Casper, Land of the Lost), Kevin Dowling (The Sum of Us, Last Rites), and Howard Owens (LFG, Killing Lincoln). The series, based on the original 1998 series, is produced by CBS Studios and Propagate Content.
