The CW announced that the upcoming DC Comic series Black Lightning is set to debut on Tuesday, Jan. 16 following an all-new episode of its top-rated series The Flash. Black Lightning will be taking the time slot of DC’s Legends of Tomorrow, but Legends will return on February on a new night and time on the network.
Greg Berlanti’s latest superhero drama follows the character of Jefferson Pierce (Cress Williams) who is a retired superhero with electricity powers, a father of two daughters, and principal of a charter high school. After nine years of retirement, Jefferson suits back up after his daughters Anissa (Nafessa Williams) and Jennifer (China Anne McClain) and his community are threatened by Tobias Whale’s (Marvin “Krondon” Jones III) 100 Gang.
Black Lightning hails from Berlanti Productions and Akil Productions in association with Warner Bros. Television. Along with Greg Berlanti, this new superhero drama is executive produced by Sarah Schechter, Mara Brock Akil, and Salim Akil, who also serves as the showrunner.
Along with revealing the series premiere date for Black Lightning, the CW also revealed a midseason schedule of premiere and return dates, which can be seen below. The network further announced that more dates will be announced later for its other upcoming shows.
