CW’s multiverse of heroes and heroines and LGBTQ-heroism is nearing its 7th three-night crossover event in that of Elseworlds. A parallel/alternate reality universe setting that will then influx the storyline with endless possibilities, Elseworlds is already known to debut a massive new character in Batwoman depicted by Ruby Rose and almost two days ago, the Green Arrow himself, Stephen Amell, added to the he-said-she-said dialogue by posting a photo featuring Welling and Rosenbaum sitting across from one another. Amell would go on to caption the photo with an excitingly, vague underline, tweeting: “Pretty excited about this one….
The former-hit series that followed a teenaged Superman discovering his powers as a growing boy, Smallville essentially paved the way for Berlanti’s modern-day success. The show would go on to run for 10 seasons and 217 episodes, setting a Warner Bros. record for the highest rated series debut in which 8.4 million people tuned in to see the shrunken down version of the man of tomorrow. For more than a few years, fans have hoped for a cameo or an on-screen acknowledgment of some kind for the once-beloved series, and Elseworlds seems to be the perfects stage for such an event with the multiverse storyline providing the perfect scapegoat for a one-off appearance of the former man of steel.
CW has shown interest in reflecting upon the foundations that built this intersecting empire of comic-book geekdom before, inserting former Clark Kent and Lois Lane actors Dean Cain and Teri Hatcher inside the frames of Supergirl, so it would be a total surprise to see some familiar faces in the midst of this giant event. In Elseworlds, the Arrowverse is introducing a hefty-amount of shake-ups and twists with a debut of Lois Lane (Elizabeth Tulloch) and Batwoman, as I already mentioned, but in addition, The Flash (Grant Gustin) and Green Arrow (Amell) will be swapping roles. The behind-the-scenes-photos have hinted at the notion of a rogue Superman with that of the black suit, and John Wesley Shipp will be reprising his role as well.
Elseworlds begins with The Flash on Sunday, December 9. It will be followed by Arrow on Monday, December 10, and end with Supergirl on Tuesday, December 11. All three episodes will air at 8 p.m. EST, and the event is sure to spike the rating chart as the rumors and speculation and continue to hype-up what-could-be, yet another, historic moment in television for the “Berlanti-verse” as part-time Arrowverse director Kevin Smith once coined in describing this organically successful multiverse of television-nerdom.
