Greg Berlanti (Arrow) is slated to reunite with Supergirl writer Derek Simon to develop The CW series entitled The Disasters, as The Hollywood Reporter reports. The series will be based on the book written by M.K. England under the same name.
The potential series will take place in the future, “when humans have colonized space to save Earth from the climate crisis,” as The Hollywood Reporter describes. The book follows a group of outsiders who attend Earth’s military academy and have been framed for treason, as well as their journey to clear their names.
If the script moves to pilot, Lee Toland Krieger (The Age of Adaline) will direct as well as executive produce alongside Simon, who will also pen the script. Berlanti and Simon worked together on The CW action series starring Melissa Benoist (Glee) entitled Supergirl, which just recently announced its cancellation with its upcoming sixth season.
