Critical Role is set to host 24-hour charity livestream event titled Shirts Off Sams Back: An All-Night Fight Against Cancer, on eBay Live. According to the official event page, the livestream begins Wednesday, April 22, at 7 p.m. PT and runs for a full day, culminating in a brand-new Darrington Brigade one-shot starting Thursday, April 23, at 7 p.m. PT.
The event will be hosted by Sam Riegel (DuckTales, The Legend of Vox Machina), who will remain live on stream throughout the broadcast. During the event, Riegel will auction off shirts and costumes worn throughout Critical Role’s history, with proceeds benefiting the Critical Role Foundation and its partner organizations, including the HNC Living Foundation and The Pablove Foundation.
The livestream will be available across multiple platforms, including eBay Live, Twitch, and YouTube, with additional access through Beacon.
A major highlight of the event is the return of the Darrington Brigade, a group of characters first introduced in a standalone one-shot adventure. The upcoming stream will feature the founding cast reprising their roles, with Riegel serving as game master for the new story.
The Darrington Brigade was originally formed by Taryon Darrington, a wealthy and overly confident inventor played by Riegel, who assembled a team to prove himself as a great adventurer. The group became known for its comedic tone and unpredictable dynamics.
The party includes The Owlbear, played by Travis Willingham (The Legend of Vox Machina, Fullmetal Alchemist: Brotherhood), a masked and theatrical fighter who sees himself as a heroic vigilante. Farriwen Breeze, played by Marisha Ray (The Legend of Vox Machina, Batgirl: Spoiled), is a calm, spiritual druid who often helps balance the group’s chaos.
Damien Vadoma, played by Taliesin Jaffe (Hellsing, Street Fighter IV), brings a darker presence as a brooding blood hunter. Buddy, played by Liam O’Brien (Naruto, Star Wars Rebels), is a quiet ogre whose gentle nature contrasts with his appearance. Hazel Copperpot, played by Ashley Johnson (The Last of Us, The Avengers), is a curious and intelligent cleric who often acts as a grounding force within the group.
The original one-shot ended with a tease that the Brigade could return for future adventures, but no continuation followed in the years after its release. The upcoming livestream marks the first time these characters will reunite on-screen since that appearance.
As the livestream approaches, the event serves as both a fundraiser and a long-awaited reunion for one of Critical Role’s most memorable one-shot groups.
