Crispin Glover and Jonathan Tucker Cast in Starz’s Upcoming ‘American Gods’

Starz is continuing to cast its Gods for the upcoming American Gods drama. TV Line reports Crispin Glover and Jonathan Tucker are the latest additions to series.

Tucker (Kingdom) has been cast as Low-Key Lyesmith. We first meet Low-Key in the beginning when Shadow (Ricky Whittle), the protagonist of the story, is in prison. Low-Key is an odd character who acts as a sort of philosophical advisor for Shadow. Even though the story opens with Shadow getting out of prison so we don’t see much of Low-Key at first, he will appear later in the story because, as it turns out, Low-Key is actually Loki (see what they did there?) the Norse trickster god.

Like Tucker, Glover (Back to the Future, Texas Rising) will also play a diety, but he will portray Mr. World, a god from a newer pantheon. Mr. World is the leader of the newer gods, but despite his position of authority, he often has trouble controlling his subordinates.

The plot of American Gods follows Shadow Moon (Whittle), a former con-artist, who ends up working as a bodyguard and traveling companion for Mr. Wednesday (Ian Mcshane). Mr. Wednesday is actually a god from mythology who is traveling across the country to gather his allies in preparation to battle a newer and younger generation of gods. A war is on the horizon between the gods of mythology and new gods who are sprouting from modern society’s obsessions with money, technology, media, celebrities, and drugs.

American Gods is based on Neil Gaiman’s novel of the same name which has won multiple awards including the Hugo, Nebula, and Bram Stoker awards for Best Novel. The novel has also been made available to many different audiences and has been translated into over 30 languages.

Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) has been cast as Laura, Shadow’s wife; Sean Harris (The Borgias) will play Mad Sweeney, the leprechaun; Yetide Badaki has joined the cast as love goddess Bilquis; and Bruce Langley will play Technology Boy (clearly a newer god).
