Deadline reports crew member of the NBC drama Law & Order: Organized Crime was shot and killed on set early Tuesday morning. The victim’s name has not been released as family has yet to be notified.
“We were terribly saddened and shocked to hear that one of our crew members was the victim of a crime early this morning and has died as a result,” a spokeswoman for NBC and Universal Television said via Deadline. “We are working with local law enforcement as they continue to investigate. Our hearts go out to his family and friends and we ask that you respect their privacy during this time.”
According to Deadline, the 31-year-old victim was sitting in a car near Greenpoint when he was shot at 5:15 a.m. The victim was transported to a hospital where he was pronounced dead at 6 a.m. The victim served as a parking enforcement officer for the series by Law & Order creator and executive producer, Dick Wolf.
Currently filming its third season, Law & Order: Organized Crime follows Christopher Meloni (Happy!, Pose) reprising his landmark role as Elliott Stabler, which he initiated more than two decades ago on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit. Since the character’s departure in 2011, Stabler had since become an undercover officer investigating various syndicates of organized crime across the world. When tragedy strikes his family on a trip to New York, Stabler finds himself assigned to a new unit seeking to dismantle some of the largest mob groups in the United States.
In addition to Meloni, Deadline reports the series stars Nona Parker Johnson (The Handmaid’s Tale, Them) Ainsley Sieger (American Waste, Law & Order: SVU), and Danielle Moné Truitt (Rebel, Deputy). The first two seasons saw Dylan McDermott’s (FBI: Most Wanted, The Practice) Richard Wheatley as Stabler and the Organized Crime Control Bureau’s main adversary. The series is showrun by Bryan Goluboff (In Treatment, Filthy Rich).
According to Deadline, a suspect in the killing has not been identified.
