‘Comedy Bang! Bang!’ to End After Season 5

It’s the end for Hot Soccermom. The IFC’s offkilter comedy/mock talk show will come to a close after season 5 according to host Scott Aukerman.

The show originated as a radio show on !ndie 103 under the name Comedy Death-Ray, based off of the stage show of the same name. The show would later move to Earwolf Media, a comedy podcast network created by Scott Aukerman and Jeff Ullrich. During the shows two year anniversary on May 15, 2011 Aukerman announced that the show would be officially changing its name to Comedy Bang Bang the Podcast. In 2012, IFC ordered a spin-off series under the same name and hosted by Scott Aukerman.

Comedy Bang! Bang! premiered on June 8, 2012 with comedian/musician Reggie Watts acting as co-host and the one-man band leader for the show. The chemistry and banter between the two would turn them into one of the best comedy duo’s of recent times. The show would feature a mix surreal and outlandish spoofs, ridiculous bits, reoccurring characters played by comedians such as Nick Kroll and Andy Dally, and a new celebrity guest every episode. The list of celebrities included famed comedic actors such as Zach Galifianakis and Amy Poehler, but also branched out to other genres including Josh Groban, Jon “Juan Jamón” Hamm, and Tony Hawk. Halfway through season 4, Reggie Watts left the show after being offered the role of bandleader for The Late Show with James Corden. Musician Kid Cudi would take over bandleader duties following the departure of Watts. After the conclusion of season 4, Kid Cudi left the show and Weird Al Yankovic was chosen to take over the role for season 5.

Aukerman expressed his love for the show following his announcement, stating “we’ve had a great run, and I couldn’t be more proud of the show. We have 10 final episodes premiering in October, and a great 2-part finale. We had enough time to write something I feel is truly special and fans will love. Plus we get to do some crazy stuff in the final ten. I want to thank all the guests who have come on, and especially my three co-stars”.

Others have chimed in on twitter to express their love for the show, including former c-star Reggie Watts, reoccurring guest Haley Joel Osment, and writer Neil Campbell.

The final episode of Comedy Bang! Bang! will air on December 10, 2016. For those who want to give the show a chance and see if the bang bang style of humor is for them, seasons 1-4 are available on Netflix
