According to ScreenRant, the absence of Gandhi in Clone High season two on Max makes sense according to the show’s co-creators. After two decades of the series being canceled, it returns on the new Max streaming platform with its season two premiere. The series launched the first two episodes of the season on May 23rd and, apart from Gandhi, returns with many known characters such as Abe, Joan, John F. Kennedy, and Cleopatra.
In an interview with ET Canada, Christopher Miller (The Lego Movie) and Phil Lord (Cocaine Bear), co-creators of Clone High, went over the absence of Gandhi in season two. They explained that they wanted to continue the lore of the series and that Gandhi’s absence should be taken the same way that other characters in other teen dramas have been abruptly dropped.
Lord stated, “The show does have to evolve and grow from season to season. It’s what happens in those teen dramas in the first place. Like Jason Street is a huge part of Friday Night Lights. And then suddenly, he’s off in college. So, we kind of wanted to treat it like that. It’s a way to shake up the character set. You know, Abe needs to find a new friend and we tried to make a virtue of the fact Gandhi was gonna remain on ice. And I think it does a great job of creating a problem for Abe to solve.”
Miller had also said, “There’s a Gandhi-size hole to fill. Confucius definitely also is a character that has a lot to live up to, like to a very revered clone parent and is maybe trying too hard. Frida also has sort of this cooler, laid-back version of that Gandhi energy.”
