Clark Gregg Hints at a Possible End for ABC’s ‘Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.’ as Well as a Reboot

Since September 24, 2013, ABC network and Marvel Studios’ Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. has been telling an array of side-stories that range anywhere from Hellfire to Ghost Rider himself — or herself. Season 7 for the series will release at some point in the fall or winter time of 2019, as the show began production in early February for the new season.

That said, amidst an interview with KTLA5 on Monday — a local news channel in Los Angeles, California — lead-star for both Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and the newly released Captain Marvel, in theaters today, reflected on his time as Phil Coulson and how his character has changed since the first time we saw him in Iron Man 2 back in 2010 to now in Captain Marvel where he is reprising his role as young Coulson as a rookie on the job. Saying: “Here I am, eleven years later. We just started shooting the seventh, and final season of Marvel’s Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D in Culver City, and it’s been an incredible ride.”

You can watch Gregg’s comments about Coulson, Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., and  Captain Marvel down below:

Gregg’s comments do hint at a possible finality for the series though, but recently he sat down with Fandom to talk about anything and everything Marvel-oriented, and it was there that he suggested a possible reboot for good ol’ Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. Stating: “My theory is that after The Avengers and the Battle of New York, the game was completely changed and the mission of SHIELD changed,” Gregg explained. “My suspicion is after Endgame there’s going to be another complete reboot that involves all of the new people we know about now and all of the new threats. It doesn’t get easier for SHIELD ever.”

For Gregg, it seems that Avengers: Endgame could be the metaphorical big bang reboot for the entire lexicon of the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Similar feats have occurred in comics with the Ultimate Universe, Avengers: Disassembled, Marvel NOW!, and the most recent Fresh Start reboot which has featured an array of first-issues.

So, as Feige and Marvel Studios have proven before, it is the comics that inform the stories at most turns, as do the fans and the world around them, so it’s not entirely out of the question that we say a new world created out of the midst of destroying the old one. Only time will tell though, be sure to catch Captain Marvel, in theaters today.
