Christina Hendricks to Star in Apple TV+’s Adaptation of ‘The Buccaneers’

Six-time Emmy Award nominee Christina Hendricks (Mad Men, Good Girls) has joined Apple TV+’s The Buccaneers adaptation as Mrs. St. George, as reported by Deadline. The original The Buccaneers novel, by Edith Warton (The Age of Innocence), is set in the 1870s and follows five wealthy American young women as they navigate British Aristocracy.

Hendricks joins previously announced cast members Alisha Boe (13 Reasons Why) as Conchita Closson, Kristine Froseth (Looking for Alaska) as Nan St. George, Aubri Ibrag (Dive Club) as Lizzy Elmsworth, Mia Threapleton (Shadows) as Honoria Marable, Critics’ Choice Award Nominee Josie Totah (Saved by the Bell) as Mabel Elmsworth, and Imogen Waterhouse (The Irregulars) as Jinny St. George. The series is created and written by Katherine Jakeways (Crackanory) and directed by two-time Emmy nominee Susanna White (Generation Kill, Jane Eyre), as announced by Deadline. Jakeways and White will also serve as executive producers alongside BAFTA nominee Beth Willis (Help) and Emmy Award winner George Faber (Elizabeth I).

Jakeways’s The Buccaneers-inspired series marks the second television adaptation of the novel. In 1995, BBC and WGBH co-produced a miniseries adaptation of the same name. The series starred Carla Gugino (The Haunting of Hill House), Alison Elliott (Servant), Academy Award Winner Mira Sorvino (Mighty Aphrodite), and Rya Kihlstedt (Superman & Lois). Gwen Humble (Lovejoy) played Mrs. St. George in the 1995 miniseries, forerunning Christina Hendricks.

Apple TV+ has yet to set a release date for the Buccaneers-inspired series.
