If you’re a fan of comedy and/ or hot people, good news!
Comedy Central announced that the Magic Mike and 21 Jump Street star is producing and starring in the animated series Germany, Deadline reports. The cartoon will center around community of germs residing in a petri dish at, naturally, the University of Berlin. The news comes fresh off of last week’s announcement that Channing Tatum and wife/ Step Up costar Jenna Dewan Tatum are developing a dance competition show for NBC after their face- off on Lip Sync Battle.
Tatum’s not the only big name working with Comedy Central. The network is eyeing 23 different projects right now, including the Adam Mackay, Will Ferrell and Olivia Wilde produced Best Seller, a presumed comedy about a power struggle at a third rate home shopping network. Another notable project is the animated Tijuana Beach, which will be produced by Eva Longoria’s production company UnbeliEVAble (get it?!)
We also might see some interesting, high concept shows from the network. A comedy docuseries is being developed by producers of Drunk History as well as PBS’s American Masters that will have a different comedy talent tell a personal story. “Each documentary will have its own look, feel and sensibility based on the storyteller’s personal perspective,” the logline reads. Jack Black’s Electric Dynamite is also producing GERP, a show within a show about a federal worker who hosts a government run television program from his cubicle. Why? “It’s all part of the Government Entertainment Recovery Program created in response to a decline in the American spirit and laughter over the past 10 years. Their mission statement is simple, give every American citizen a reason to feel good about themselves again through ‘high energy’ bipartisan entertainment,” the show’s logline explains.
Other Comedy Central projects are being produced by Ed Helms, Melissa McCarthy & Ben Falcone. They’ve also announced several upcoming specials including stand up specials for Saturday Night Live’s Pete Davidson, Conan writer Deon Cole, Kevin Hart and roast- mainstay Jeff Ross. Hart and Ross are getting two specials each, because that’s the world we live in.
The network isn’t just dipping into a pool of new names either. After renewing nearly all of its current- running programs, the laugh hub is also developing series with its own Amy Schumer, @midnight host Chris Hardwick and The Daily Show correspondents Jessica Williams and Jordan Klepper respectively.
