CBS To Produce Animated Reboot of ‘Everybody Hates Chris’

The 2005 original sitcom series Everybody Hates Chris is set to receive a reboot from CBS Studios, only this time it will be animated, according to Deadline. Airing on UPN and The CW, the series ran from 2005 to 2009 and aired four seasons consisting of 88 half-hour episodes. The series hailed from Chris Rock (Saturday Night Live, Grown Ups) and Ali LeRoi (The Obituary of Tunde Johnson) and was loosely based on the childhood and teenage experiences of the comedian Rock. Currently, Rock and LeRoi are set to return as executive producers alongside another past executive producer for the series, Michael Rotenberg (King of the Hill, Silicon Valley). Rock will also remain on as the series’ narrator.

Everybody Hates Chris centers on the cast of characters from Rock’s childhood in Brooklyn, particularly the Bedford-Stuyvesant (Bed-Stuy) neighborhood. The live-action series followed fictional characterization of himself and the remainder of his family which included his father, mother, younger brother, and younger sister. The cast included Tyler James Williams (The Walking Dead) as young Chris alongside Imani Hakim (Mythic Quest, The Gabby Douglas Story) as his sister Tonya, Vincent Martella (Phineas and Ferb) as his best friend Greg, Tequan Richmond (Ray) as his brother Drew, Tichina Arnold (Martin, The Neighborhood) as his mother Rochelle, and Terry Crews (Brooklyn Nine-Nine) as his father Julius.

The announced animated version of this classic sitcom joins the long list of other animated projects from CBS Studios which includes Star Trek: Lower Decks, Star Trek: Prodigy, and Our Cartoon President. Currently, it is unknown when the series will be ready to be premiered nor the cast for the animated voice cast.
