CBS Renews ‘NCIS’, ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’, and ‘CSI: Vegas’ For 2023-2024 Season

Earlier today, CBS announced which series the network is renewing for the 2023-2024 season. According to Deadline, among the renewed shows were the popular dramas NCIS, its spinoff NCIS: Hawai’i, and CSI: Vegas. This renewal means NCIS is returning for a twenty-first season, while the other two shows will return for their third seasons. 

According to Deadline, other shows renewed for new seasons include the dramas Fire Country, The Equalizer, FBI, FBI: International, and FBI: Most Wanted. Comedy series returning for new seasons include Young Sheldon, Ghosts, The Neighborhood, Bob Hearts Abishola, and So Help Me Todd

The renewal of NCIS marks an important milestone for the show; the series has now surpassed Gunsmoke as the third-longest-running U.S. primetime drama series. The first two spots are taken by Law & Order: SVU which is currently in its twenty-fourth season, and Law & Order which currently has twenty-two seasons. 

The current cast for NCIS includes Sean Murray (Hocus Pocus, Jonesy) as Agent Tim McGee; Wilmer Valderrama (Encanto, Gentefied) as Agent Nick Torres; Brian Dietzen (From Justin to Kelly, Congratulations) as Dr. Jimmy Palmer; Diona Reasonover (Film Fest, Future Man) as forensic Kasie Hines; Katrina Law (Hawaii Five-0, Arrow) as Agent Jessica Knight; Davis McCallum (The Man from U.N.C.L.E, The Great Escape) as Dr. ‘Ducky’ Mallard; Rocky Carroll (Chicago Hope, Yes Man) as NCIS Director Leon Vance; and Gary Cole (The Good Fight, Family Guy) as Agent Alden Parker, the new team leader. 

The original NCIS focuses on group of special agents that work together to solve crimes against US military members. Over the years the team has gone through some changes seeing fan-favorite characters like Abby Sciuto, played by Pauley Perrette (Broke, Fantasy Hospital); Ziva David, played by Cote de Pablo (The Jury, Seneca); Ellie Bishop, played by Emily Wickersham (The Bridge, Glitch); and Anthony Dinozzo played by Michael Weatherly (Bull, Dark Angel), leave the team. Recently the main character and leader of the team Leroy Jethro Gibbs, played by Mark Harmon (Freaky Friday, Chasing Liberty), left the show after nineteen seasons as the leader.

NCIS: Hawai’i is a spinoff of the original show. In this new series, we see the team of special agents led by Agent Jane Tennant, played by Vanessa Lachey (Dads, Call Me Kat), as they investigate crimes against members of the US military in Hawai’i. Other cast members include Alex Tarrant (The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Vegas) playing Agent Kai Holman; Noah Mills (The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, The Brave) playing Agent Noah Mills; Yasmine Al-Bustami (The Chosen, Send It!) playing Agent Lucy Tara; Jason Antoon (Claws, Noelle) playing Agent Ernie Malik; Tori Anderson (Blindspot, The Secret Sauce) playing Kate Whistler; and Kian Talan (Cicada, The Good Doctor) playing Alex Tennant. 

NCIS and NCIS: Hawai’i recently came together alongside NCIS: Los Angeles in the first crossover involving all series from the franchise. 

CSI: Vegas is a sequel to CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, the original forensic show that gave way to multiple spinoffs including CSI: NY and CSI: Miami. The sequel brings back familiar faces as the crime lab faces a threat that could bring them down. Now, the old team and the new team of forensic investigators must work together to preserve and serve justice in Las Vegas. 

The cast of the show includes Paula Newsome (Spider-Man: No Way Home, Chicago Med) as Maxine Roby; Marg Helgenberger (All Rise, A Dog’s Journey) returns as Catherine Willows; Matt Lauria (80 for Brady, Kingdom) as Josh Folsom; Mandeep Dhillon (Avoidance, After Life) as Allie Rajan; Ariana Guerra (Promised Land, Madres) as Detective Serena Chavez; Jay Lee (Looking for Alaska, American Vandal) as Chris Park; and Lex Medlin (Lying and Stealing, Golden Boy) as Beau Finado. The first season of the show also had the participation of original forensic investigator Sara Sidle, played by Jorja Fox (ER, The Map of Tiny Perfect Things), and Gil Grissom, played by William Petersen (Manhattan, Detachment).  

No specific premiere dates were given for the new seasons of the shows. All seasons of NCIS, NCIS: Hawai’i, and CSI: Vegas are available to stream on Paramount+.
