According to Deadline, a proposed Equalizer spin-off starring Titus Welliver (The Town, Argo) will not be moving forward with CBS. The Equalizer series is currently still in the hot seat, awaiting possible renewal.

The decision to move on from the proposed spin-off series comes after the April 20, 2025, airing of a planted spin-off episode featuring Welliver and Juani Feliz (Civil War, Fleishman is in Trouble). Deadline reports that chances are roughly 50-50 on whether or not The Equalizer, starring and executive produced by Queen Latifah (Chicago, Hairspray), will be renewed for a final 13-episode season. Finances are reported to be at the heart of renewal discussions.

The Equalizer series follows Latifah as Agent Robyn McCall, a mysterious former CIA agent who uses her prodigious skills to aid the downtrodden. According to Deadline, the proposed spin-off series would have followed Welliver as Hudson Reed, another mysterious CIA agent with dark secrets and close ties to McCall, and Feliz as his daughter Samantha Reed, a highly trained martial artist, weapons specialist, and master of disguise with a dark past.

The spin-off was reportedly the last 2025 pilot CBS had yet to decide on. According to Deadline, the network ordered a total of six pilots and plans to move forward with three of them, including Einstein starring Matthew Gray Gubler (500 Days of Summer, Criminal Minds), an FBI spin-off tentatively titled CIA, and a workplace comedy titled DMV starring Harriet Dyer (Colin From Accounts, The Invisible Man). 

Along with The Equalizer spin-off, CBS has also nixed a stand-alone comedy titled Zarna and a potential spin-off of The Neighborhood. The studio also cancelled two FBI spin-offs, Most Wanted and International, earlier this year, according to Deadline.

CBS’s finalized schedule for the 2025-26 season will officially be announced on May 7, 2025.
