CBS’s ‘Mom’ Actress Mary Pat Gleason Dies at 70

Actress Mary Pat Gleason passed away of cancer at age 70, according to Deadline. The late star appeared in over 100 film and television credits.

Gleason was born in Lake City, Minnesota and kicked off her decades-long career in in 1982 with the NBC soap opera, Texas. Next Gleason starred as Jane Hogan in the daytime drama The Guiding Light. Her part as the writing team of the series, which ran for 72 seasons on CBS, earned her a daytime Emmy.

Since her portrayal of Hogan, the actress eventually appeared on handfuls of television series which include, Full House, Dear John, Murphy Brown, Empty Nest, L.A. Law, Saved by the Bell, Murder, She Wrote, Friends, Step by Step, Suddenly Susan, Will & Grace, Sex and the City, Desperate Housewives, Family Matters, NCIS: Los Angeles, The Middleman, Up All Night, 1600 Penn, Motive, Baby Daddy, Grey’s Anatomy, Partners, Mama’s Family, and 2 Broke Girls via Deadline.

Taking her acting towards other platforms, Gleason contributed her voice, starring as Professor Foxtrot on College Humor’s YouTube series, WTF 101. Most recently, Gleason appeared in Mom portraying Mary, an Alcoholics Anonymous member. Gleason’s last television appearance took place in the October 24, 2019 episode of Mom, where Gleason’s character passed away during an AA meeting due to a brain aneurysm.

Actor Ron Fassler posted in rememberence of the actress. On Facebook Fassler remarked Gleason as “one of the dearest and sweetest people I have ever had the pleasure to know” via USA Today.
