Fans of Boston Blue will not have to wait much longer to see Boston Blue return to the Boston Police Department. According to Deadline, a CBS premiere-week promotional video that appeared on a fan site revealed that Season two of Boston Blue will premiere on Friday, Oct. 9.
The sophomore season continues the story of Danny Reagan, played by Donnie Wahlberg (Blue Bloods, Saw II), after he left the New York Police Department behind for a new chapter in Boston. Season two will pick up immediately after the dramatic Season 1 finale, which left several major questions unanswered.
Detective Lena Silver, portrayed by Sonequa Martin-Green (Star Trek: Discovery, The Walking Dead), was recovering after being shot in the line of duty, while her boyfriend’s fate remained uncertain after a mysterious driver intentionally rammed his vehicle and sent it into the water.
Deadline notes that the new season will also continue to explore Danny’s evolving relationship with his son, Sean Reagan, played by Mika Amonsen (Blue Bloods, Boston Blue). Sean first appeared in Blue Bloods before joining the spinoff, allowing the father-son dynamic to continue in its new setting.
Several familiar faces from Blue Bloods have also appeared throughout the series. Bridget Moynahan (I, Robot, John Wick) has reprised her role as Erin Reagan, Danny’s sister, while Marisa Ramirez (Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, Body of Proof) has returned as Maria Baez, Danny’s former NYPD partner and current girlfriend.
Earlier this year, mxdwn covered the release of the first look at Len Cariou’s (When They See Us, Bumblebee) return as Henry Reagan in Boston Blue. That report highlighted how the series continued to build connections with its Blue Bloods roots by bringing back members of the Reagan family while also expanding the new Silver family storyline in Boston.
With season two now officially set for October, viewers can expect those family ties to remain an important part of the show’s next chapter. The season one finale ended on multiple cliffhangers, the premiere will finally give viewers answers about Lena’s recovery, her boyfriend’s fate, and what lies ahead for Danny Reagan as he continues building a new life in Boston.
