CBS Announces Plans To Air Final Episodes of ‘Million Dollar Mile’ In Midst of Cancellation

CBS has announced the reality competition series, Million Dollar Mile, will officially air the last remainder of the episodes starting on July 6th at 8 PM ET/PT. The show was previously pulled from its original weekday airing schedule and moved to Saturdays, after two other episodes premiered back to back on June 29th. Since then, the series’ has been pulled from air completely after another two subsequently aired on the network on May 4th.

Hosted by former NFL player Tim Tebow, the competition show follows “contestants along the course, dubbed the “Million Dollar Mile, as they battle top athletes who are trying to stop them from finishing the race.” Sports personality, Matt “Money” Smith, and ESPN analyst, Maria Taylor, act as commentators on the competition.

Since its premiere, Million Dollar Mile has had a fairly low viewership rating for the network, opening at a 1.0/4 rating and 4.1 million viewers during its debut. Soon an eventual decline to 0.8/4 and 3.4 million viewers in the second week followed, despite plans for a second season to consist of a mash-up with other contestants from racing shows such as Survivor and Big Brother.

The show’s original premise was set in the streets of a major city after shutting it down, so that a Million Dollar Mile course can go up throughout its streets. Never being done before, Million Dollar Mile‘s producers described the series as an “unprecedented television event series, where contestants will have the chance to win $1,000,000 every time they run the Million Dollar Mile. Standing in their way is the most challenging course ever designed and a group of elite athletes with one mission – stop the contestants from winning the money at all costs.”

Back in August 2018, CBS initially ordered a 10-episode order for the series, describing it as a “high-stakes competition series that challenges everyday athletes’ physical and mental toughness.” LeBron James was named as the series’ executive producer in partnership with Maverick Carter’s Springhill Entertainment. Big Brother‘s producer Fly on the Wall Entertainment work in tandem with Warner Horizon Unscripted & Alternative Television.
