CBS All Access is Offering Ad-Free for a Nominal Fee

Aside from the options to binge your favorite shows and play and pause them at your convenience, people love streaming sites for another significant reason: there’s no ads. No oddly cryptic commercials that could be for either cologne or cars that make up forty percent of your viewing experience. CBS has decided to fight fire with fire by offering a new ad-free subscription soption for their CBS All Access service…. for an extra $4.

CBS All Access already offers the ability to live stream their TV shows and stream over 8,500 episodes of their programming, including modern hits like The Big Bang Theory and Brain Dead, and classic shows like The Brady Bunch and Cheers, all for the price of $5.99 a month with “limited commercials”. According to The Hollywood Reporter, this past Wednesday CBS unveiled a commercial-free option for their streaming service that will cost customers $9.99,

In response to the additional $4 fee for the service, CBS feels that customers will be more than willing to pay for the luxury. Interactive president and COO of CBS Marc DeBevoise stated “The foundation of CBS All Access is not only about giving CBS fans access to more of the content they want, but also giving them more choices in how they watch their favorite CBS programming. The addition of a commercial-free plan gives our subscribers even more ways to customize their CBS viewing experience — from which devices to whether they watch in or out of the home, and now with commercials or without.”

CBS does have a point. Netflix offers a 1 screen standard definition option for $7.99 a month, but in order to gain HD access and a 2 screen option it’ll run you $9.99 a month, and for “Ultra HD” and 4 screens, it’ll be $11.99. Hulu is worse, offering a commercial ridden option for 7.99 month and a commercial free option for $11.99 a month, but both options come in HD. Amazon Prime Video will also run you about $8.25 a year, but comes with unlimited, free two-day shipping. In the world of streaming services, CBS seems to have a fair price.

On a final, very enticing note for fans of Star Trek who are excited for the upcoming Star Trek: Discoverythe show will be available on CBS All Access commercial free, for those willing to pay for it.
