Cast Of ‘Modern Family’ Reunite At SAG Awards With One Cast Member Showing “Proof Of Life”

The Modern Family cast got back together at the SAG Awards to present the Ensemble in a Comedy Series category, which The Bear won, according to Deadline. The group appeared all together and while presenting the award made some jokes similar to their characters on the show. However, at least one cast member’s appearance served a more important purpose.

Jesse Tyler Ferguson (Ugly Betty, Cocaine Bear), Julie Bowen (Totally Killer, Hubie Halloween), Ty Burrell (The Incredible Hulk, Finding Dory), Ed O’Neill (Wreck-It-Ralph, Married…With Children), Sofía Vergara (Griselda, America’s Got Talent), and Eric Stonestreet (Domino Masters, The Loftjoked about their post-series activities.

On Friday, March 1st, Ferguson, who portrayed Mitchell Pritchett in the sitcom, revealed during The Tonight Show that he persuaded Burrell, who played Phil Dunphy, to attend the ceremony to clear fan rumors.

Ferguson discussed their SAG reunion by saying: “Honestly, on that night, we were all busy, Sofia Vergara was supposed to be doing press, I was supposed to be here in New York, Julie Bowen was shooting a show, Ed O’Neill had a glass of wine to drink. And so we all canceled those very important things, and we figured out a way to come together because the last time we had a reunion, Ty Burrell wasn’t able to come, and so we posed with a photo of Ty… and then the internet thought he was dead.”

According to Deadline, Ferguson refused to let Burrell be left out of the reunion to avoid anymore death rumors.

Ferguson stated: “When the SAG Awards happened, [Burrell] was supposed to do something else, I was like, ‘Ty! You can’t miss it again! People will really think you’re dead!’ It’s like, ‘We need to present you to show you that you’re not dead!’ So he made it.”
