Carrie Coon Joins Cast of ‘The White Lotus’ Season Three

The hit HBO drama, The White Lotus has added another star to their already stacked cast. The actor Carrie Coon, best known for her work on the period drama The Gilded Age is booked and busy with not only said show being renewed for a third season, but also joining the cast of The White Lotus for season three. She joins a cast that is already chock-full of major names.

The upcoming season of The White Lotus will be set in Thailand. Coon joins a cast that contains the actors Leslie Bibb, Jason Isaacs, Michelle Monaghan, Parker Posey, Dom Hetrakul and Tayme Thapthimthong and Natasha Rothwell. According to Deadline, The series is slated to start filming in February in the locations Koh Samui, Phuket, and Bangkok and is going to be following a new group of guests at a White Lotus Property. Because of their unique location and need for promotion, HBO and the Tourism Authority of Thailand have partnered up to work together on the project.

There isn’t much information yet on the details surrounding the plot or the characters. But brief descriptions were reported by Deadline, reading “a patriarch, a female corporate executive, an actress, a couple of mothers, including a country club wife, a misfit, and a yogi” will all make up the group of wealthy hotel dwellers. Mike White, the creator of the series, has announced that this season will dive into “death in Eastern religion and spirituality.”

“It’s going to be a supersized White Lotus,” he told Deadline this past November. “It’s going to be longer, bigger, crazier.”

Season three has been delayed due to the SAG-AFTRA and WGA strikes and is most likely going to be released in 2025. Casting for this upcoming season was underway just hours after the strikes finished.

The first season of The White Lotus was extremely successful, gathering 20 Emmy nominations in 2021 and winning 10 of them, setting the record for that year. The second season brought 23 nominations in 2022, including Outstanding Drama Series.
