Carl Weathers Confirms Third Season of Star Wars’ ‘The Mandalorian’ Has Begun Production

Star Wars: The Mandalorian is now set to return for a third season on Disney Plus, and has begun its production, via ComicBook. The exciting news is confirmed by Carl Weathers, who played Greef Karga in previous seasons. Weathers, known for his performances in Rocky and Action Jackson, will also return to the newest season as both an actor and a director.

Announced back in 2018, The Mandalorian serves as an extension and the first live-action series of the Star Wars franchise. The storyline picks up five years after the events of Return Of The Jedi (1983). Din Djarin, a lone Mandalorian bounty hunter, is hired to retrieve the child of Grogu, but instead goes on the run to protect the infant. During their ways, they encounter Moff Gideon, the leader of a remnant of the fallen Galactic Empire who is trying to capture young alien Grogu.

Pedro Pascal played Din Djarin in the first two seasons, and he will be returning to season 3. Pascal is known for his role, Javier Peña, on the Netflix biographic crime series, Narcos. Giancarlo Esposito will also return to the new season as Moff Gideon. Esposito is best known for the role of Gus Fring in the AMC crime drama series, Breaking Bad, and the prequel series Better Call Saul.

Battlestar Galactica actress Katee Sackhoff is also confirmed to continue portraying Bo-Katan KryzeDuring an interview with SlashFilm.com, Sackhoff revealed that “Dave and I talk a lot about Bo and her backstory and time lost and things like that, just because we enjoy talking about Star Wars and the characters. I definitely know a lot about who she is and where she’s been and what’s happened.” She also showed her excitement for the upcoming season: “But that is so far above my pay grade, and you just don’t know, right? As a fan of the show, I’m just excited to see what they come up with.”

The Mandalorian is created and executively produced by Jon Favreau. As a director, Favreau worked on projects such as Elf (2003), Chef (2014), The Lion King (2019), and more. Favreau will continue to be involved with the production of season 3. The previous two seasons both contain eight episodes each. Season three is scheduled to launch on Disney Plus in late 2022.
