Burke Ramsey Sues CBS Over ‘The Case Of: JonBenet Ramsey’

Burke Ramsey, the older brother of JonBenét Ramsey, is still not pleased with the results of The Case Of: JonBenet Ramsey. When the two-day special aired in September, investigators on CBS came to the conclusion that it was likely that Burke Ramsey was the one who killed his sister. But now, The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Ramsey is suing CBS for $750 million, saying that the show harmed his reputation after saying he was the reason his younger sister died 20 years ago.

This is the second lawsuit that Ramsey has filed because of the results of the show. In October, The Hollywood Reporter said that Ramsey filed a $150 million lawsuit. However, the first lawsuit was against one of the investigators of the show, not CBS itself. In that lawsuit, Ramsey is saying that he’d never been a public figure, as the first time he spoke in public about his sister’s death was when he spoke to Dr. Phil in September. If it’s proved that Ramsey is a public figure, it will be much harder for him to win a defamation case. He’s also hoping that the court will force the investigator to retract all statements and prevent him from saying that Ramsey was responsible for his sister’s death in the future.

The second lawsuit, which was filed on Wednesday, is directly against CBS.

A part of the lawsuit that was filed on Wednesday says that “The accusation that Burke Ramsey killed his sister was based on a compilation of lies, half-truths, manufactured information, and the intentional omission and avoidance of truthful information about the murder of JonBenét Ramsey.”

The lawsuit also says that the special was a “sham reinvestigation” and that the show had a “preconceived storyline.”

Though investigators said that Ramsey was likely to have killed his sister, no new charges have been filed in the murder of his sister. The six-year-old was found in the basement of her Colorado home right after Christmas in 1996. There’s been suspicions that the Ramsey family was somehow involved in the murder, but nothing has been completely proven. The family was cleared in 2008.
