Deadline reports that Law & Order and Law & Order: SVU have been renewed by NBC for the 2024–2025 season. Law & Order has been renewed
With multiple showrunners throughout its run, Law & Order: Organized Crime is the lowest rated of Dick Wolf’s NBC programs. Prior to being replaced by Barry O’Brien (CSI: Miami, Kangaroo Jack), Ilene Chaiken (The Handmaid’s Tale, Barb Wire) took over as showrunner from Matt Olmstead (Chicago P.D., Prison Break). Following Bryan Goluboff’s (The Basketball Diaries, Mr.Mercedes) departure from the position after three months as showrunner for season three, David Graziano (Terra Nova, Coyote) took over for Sean Jablonski, who also left soon after citing “creative differences.” Showrunner for season four is John Shiban (Breaking Bad, Ozark).
Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago P.D. are part of the One Chicago trio that NBC has renewed concurrently with these changes.
Deadline claims that there have been some notable casting changes on Law & Order. Reid Scott (Veep, Venom) joined the cast as Detective Vincent Riley after Jeffrey Donovan (Burn Notice, Sicario: Day Of The Soldado), who played Detective Frank Cosgrove, left before production could begin.
Then, after over 400 episodes and almost 30 years, it was announced that Jack McCoy’s actor Sam Waterson (Grace and Frankie, Oppenheimer) was leaving the series. Tony Goldwyn (Scandal, Divergent) joined the team as Nicholas Baxter, the new DA.
In addition, Hugh Dancy (Hannibal, Downtown Abbey: A New Era), Odelya Halevi (Black Adam, Why Women Kill), Mehcad Brooks (A Fall From Grace, Supergirl), and Camryn Manheim (Ghost Whisperer, Private Practice) star in the show.
Earlier this month, Deadline disclosed that Kelli Giddish (All My Children, Chase) will be returning as Amanda Rollins on SVU. Mariska Hargitay (The Love Guru, Ghoulies), the show’s leader, is anticipated to return for season 26. Octavio Pisano (Feral State, Badsville), Peter Scanavino (The Cold Lands, Deception), and Ice-T (New Jack City, Leprechaun In The Hood) will also appear in the next season.
NBC reports that Law & Order is averaging 7.7 million viewers, up 56% and up 122% in the demo.
Law & Order: SVU, according to NBC, is averaging 11.2 million viewers, up 111% and up 325% in the demo.
In collaboration with Wolf Entertainment, Universal Television produces each series.
