When the news dropped last night that Bob Odenkirk had collapsed on the set of Better Call Saul, huge damper came over the television industry. Every social media service was flooded with heartfelt messages from many, including co-stars Aaron Paul (El Camino), Michael McKean (Spinal Tap), and David Cross (Mr. Show), towards the talented actor. The night was somber with very few details being known about what actually took place. Finally, in a turn for the better this afternoon, Deadline reported that Odenkirk was in stable condition.
Representatives of Odenkirk reached out to Deadline to say that he was now stable and that it was diagnosed as a “heart-related issue.”
“We can confirm Bob is in stable condition after experiencing a heart-related incident,” the statement to Deadline read. “He and his family would like to express gratitude for the incredible doctors and nurses looking after him, as well as his cast, crew and producers who have stayed by his side. The Odenkirks would also like to thank everyone for the outpouring of well wishes and ask for their privacy at this time as Bob works on his recovery.”
Bob Odenkirk’s son, Nate Odenkirk, reiterated the good news from the actor’s representatives. In a Tweet, he stated that his father is “going to be okay.”
The incident, which happened late Tuesday evening, took place on the set of Better Call Saul in New Mexico. The show has been filming its sixth and final season of the show since March of this year. The pandemic had pushed back the production greatly, and the critically acclaimed series was expected to release in the first quarter of 2022. Odenkirk’s health scare could shake up the show’s schedule a bit, but that is a problem everyone would live with if it meant a full recovery for the actor.
Representatives for Sony Pictures Television, producers of the series, did not make a statement on the issue.
