According to HBO’s press release, the bold, unapologetic comedy of Bill Maher (Politically Incorrect, Religulous, D.C Cab) returns to HBO this January with his 13th special, Bill Maher: Is Anyone Else Seeing This? Known for his sharp wit and political commentary, Maher will film the special live at Chicago’s historic CIBC Theater, a venue that suits the comic who rarely shies away from saying what he thinks—especially when it might ruffle a few feathers.
Maher, host of HBO’s Real Time with Bill Maher, is no stranger to controversy, and this special promises no shortage. “I almost called this special ‘You Won’t Feel Safe,’ because if you’re purely a team player in American politics, you won’t,” Maher explained, as mentioned by the press release. He added that his comedy this time around is geared toward the “80% of Americans who want to see crazy called out no matter where it comes from.” He teased that the final portion of the special will be a candid, perhaps surprising, look into his personal life, remarking, “And the last twenty minutes on my sex life, that’s for everybody.”
Bill Maher: Is Anyone Else Seeing This? continues a long-running relationship between Maher and HBO, spanning over three decades. According to the press release, Maher first appeared on the network in 1989 and has since released 12 solo specials, including fan favorites like Be More Cynical (2000), I’m Swiss (2005), Live from Oklahoma (2018), and his most recent, #Adulting(2022).
Also mentioned in the press release, Nina Rosenstein (The Chris Rock Show, Wired, Exit 57), HBO’s EVP of Late Night & Specials Programming, expressed the network’s appreciation for Maher’s comedic style, saying, “Bill’s comedic commentary has been an extraordinary part of HBO for 12 specials and 22 seasons of Real Time with Bill Maher. We truly value his steadfast commitment to honesty and humor, which we know will be front and center in his next special.”
Produced by Maher alongside Marc Gurvitz (The Cable Guy, Real Time, Politically Incorrect), Marcus Raboy (Janky Promoters, Friday After Next) and Neal Marshall (Standing Room Only, Laugh Out Loud Comedy Festival), Bill Maher: Is Anyone Else Seeing This? aims to bring Maher’s unique humor and critique to new heights. Audiences can expect nothing short of unfiltered, searing takes on the political landscape—and maybe a few unexpected personal anecdotes to round out the night.
