‘Big Bang Theory’ Star Johnny Galecki & Science Channel Creating TV Series ‘SciJinks’

Johnny Galecki, one of the lead actors of CBS’ hit comedy Big Bang Theory, is certainly branching out to pursue other ventures. Just last month he announced he was developing on a new series for CBS, and now it seems Galecki is working with Science Channel on a series which sounds like Bill Nye the Science Guy meets Punk’d.

According to report by Deadline, his new series is called SciJinks and will feature STEM professionals who will explain the science behind crazy hijinks. Science Channel has ordered eight 30-minute episodes, which are expected by the end of 2017. Topics such as chemistry, physics, technology, engineering, and many more topics are likely to be covered by the series, all while entertaining audiences with clever ways to apply the knowledge.

Galecki explained his inspiration for SciJinks in a comment to Deadline:

One of the most rewarding elements of being on The Big Bang Theory has been being approached by younger people who claim they never before had considered a life in the sciences until watching the show. Our goal on Big Bang is to make people laugh. These kids are molding our culture, building our future and even curing diseases. SciJinks is a way to celebrate them and hopefully inspire more young people to follow in their footsteps — while having an absurdly good and mischievous time.

In a comment to Deadline, Marc Etkind, the General Manager of Science Channel, said the following about the series:

Johnny’s humor and talent have charmed millions of fans for years, myself included. We are so glad to reward his loyal fans with this fun and fascinating series that features mind-blowing science.

A. Smith & Co. Productions, the production company behind reality shows American Ninja Warrior and Hell’s Kitchen, will also be producing the series.

Galecki is also working on a multi-camera 30-minute comedy series for CBS called Living Biblically. The series follows a man who tries to live according to the bible, word by word. If the pilot makes it to series, Galecki and his production company Alcide Bava is producing the series, and he will serve as executive producer. Andy Ackerman (Seinfeld) will be directing the pilot. It is currently filming.

Meanwhile, Galecki is still signed on the appear as Leonard on Big Bang Theory, which is currently on season 10. The series was recently renewed for an 11th and 12th season, meaning Galecki will continue to star alongside original cast members Jim Parsons, Kaley Cuoco, Kunal Nayyar, and Simon Helberg, through season 12.
