The Star Trek: Strange New Worlds universe is set to expand the possibilities for one of its most important relationships, shift recently teased by actor Paul Wesley (The Vampire Diaries, Robot Chicken). According to Screenrant, the dynamic in question is between James and his older brother, Sam Kirk—played by Dan Jeannotte (Reign, Good Witch), who were initially at odds with each other, but gradually developed a deeper mutual respect and understanding over time.
Most viewers know the future of Kirk as the eventual captain of the USS Enterprise, but we get to delve deeper into Sam, giving him the spotlight not seen in previous Star Trek stories.
Paul and Dan, alongside the series producer, Henry Alonso Myers (Ugly Betty, Day Break) spoke in an interview with Screenrant’s Joe Deckelmeier at the 2026 Comic-Con about the future business they would start together. Wesley stated,” That’s good. That’s a pretty good question. Okay, let me think. So he’s into science. Okay, and Kirk’s into… not science. So maybe they need to meet in the middle. Oh, I know, like a revolutionary new way of like… can we put Sam’s engineering skills, science slash engineering skills… You know what I’m saying… and maybe he can build some sort of space rocket launcher company, like a space tourism company.”
Henry Alonso Myers noted, “As a xenoanthropologist, I think he would be quite interested.”Paul Wesley agrees, adding, “Exactly. Perhaps we could offer drinks during the session—that seems like a good direction. Should I make a note of that? Henry Alonso Myers finishes up,” Let’s set a meeting.”
Stated by Screenrant, while the audience agrees that the Kirk brothers would thrive in a space tourism venture, this idea seems unlikely to come to fruition due to Sam’s impending fate. Only time will tell what the future holds for the brothers and whether they can change their destiny.
