Earlier on Thursday, it was announced that Wonder Man, the Marvel series released in January of this year, will not be returning for its renewed second season. Soon after the announcement, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II (Candyman, Watchmen), the lead actor of the show, responded to the cancellation on his Instagram.
“Word just dropped that Wonder Man won’t be coming back for Season 2. (And if you don’t knowww, now ya knoww!)” Abdul-Mateen wrote on his post on Instagram. “That’s life, right? Everything will shake out.” Abdul-Mateen, an already EMMY winning actor, was nominated for a Primetime Emmy for outstanding lead actor in a comedy series for his role in Wonder Man.
Abdul-Mateen continued the post by thanking all of those who watched and appreciated the show. He finishes his post by saying that he will “see you at the EMMYs.”
“The show worked,” Abdul-Mateen wrote. “And that’s my favorite thing about it. I could see it on the faces of the YouTube Reactors (because I watched along with y’all this time. Shoutout to y’all) and I can see in the messages I get saying how the show reminded some of you not to give up, and I feel it in the genuine love shared when I bump into some of you all during the day.”
Wonder Man followed Simon Williams, played by Abdul-Mateen, as he struggles to become an actor while holding his superpowers back. Sir Ben Kingsley (Schindler’s List, Tuck Everlasting) co-stars as Trevor Slattery, reprising a role from Iron Man 3.
Wonder Man was released to great reviews, such as a 91% on Rotten Tomatoes. Out of many of the recent Marvel television projects, Wonder Man received some of the best reviews upon release. The first season consisted of eight episodes. Mxdwn has a review for each episode.
