Beyond the Elements: HBO Max’s ‘Iyanu’ Returns To Fill The Avatar Void

Audience are on the edge of their seats awaiting on what lies ahead for the iconic Avatar: The Last Airbender franchise, but while the wait new successor has claimed the spotlight. According to Screenrant, HBO gives a confirmation that the hit animated fantasy superhero series, Iyanu is returning for a second season. The series is based solely on the graphic novel of the same name and is produced by the showrunner Roye Okupe (Malika: Warrior Queen, WindMaker Volume 1).

The plot of series focus on the journey of Iyanu, voiced by Serah Johnson (Professor T.E.E and the Problem Solvers), who obtained superpowers and joined forces with Biyi, voiced by Okey Jude (Red Butterflies, The Governor’s Daughter) and Toye, voiced by Samuel Kugbiyi (Pari Leto, Jabalatato discover the truth behind the evil of the homeland. Stated by Screenrant, the previous season finale ended with the trio fighting against the people of the deep and facing in a final confrontation with Chancellor Nuro, voiced by Femi Sowooli and the Fallen One, voiced by Lord Frank (Sylvia, Superstar).

Reported by Screenrant,  the confirmation goes on to show that the first half of the second season is scheduled to premier on March 22 and a sequel movie is also in production and set to debut in the summer. The series has been been praised for its truthful representation of Nigeria culture and called a wonder blend of Avatar and Black Panther. This nefor the team w season will surely throw new challenges for the team to overcome.

As the live-action version of Avatar: The Last Airbender’s second season is currently in its post production in Netflix, the animated series goes to show that the same spirit is transcending beyond a single franchise. While the audience await on the second season debut, the previous season of  Iyanu is available to stream on HBO Max.
