Better Call Saul finally has a premiere date, Deadline has reported, marking the return of the Breaking Bad prequel after what will be more than a year long hiatus. Bob Odenkirk will be lawyering up as the slick talking and witty Jimmy McGill on February 23-24 with a special two night premiere for the long awaited AMC series. Better Call Saul also went on Twitter to officially announce its return with a teaser video.
The season 4 finale saw a profound change in Jimmy McGill as he’s seemingly starting to embrace the Saul Goodman inside of him, having chosen to practice the law under the Goodman name instead of under Mcgill after being reinstated as a lawyer. Mike Ehrmantraut, played by Jonathan Banks, is also a step closer to becoming the more hardened goon fans are introduced to in Breaking Bad, with Giancarlo Esposito’s Gus Fring planning to expand his already enormous criminal empire into the meth market.
Season 4 has pushed Better Call Saul that much closer to Breaking Bad’s territory, and although fans know where many of the series’ characters will end up, the fates of other characters are still a question mark. Jimmy McGill’s partner in crime, Kim Wexler played by Rhea Seehorn, has no presence in Breaking Bad, leaving her future enshrouded in mystery. Howard Hamlin (Patrick Fabian), Nacho Varga (Michael Mando), and Lalo Salamanca (Tony Dalton) also all have unknown futures that have been left up to the speculation of fans. But whereas Wexler and Hamlin have never been mentioned, there’s a passing reference to Nacho on Breaking Bad which might hold a clue to his fate, and Lalo Salamanca’s omission from Breaking Bad’s timeline is also glaring given the fact that he seems to be the only Salamanca that avoids crossing paths with Walter White.
