BBC One Teams Up ‘The Bodyguard’ Series Producer for New Show ‘Showtrial’

BBC One Network agreed to collaborate with executive producer and writer of the British television series The Bodyguard, Ben Richards. Richards is the creative mind behind the new series, Showtrial, which BBC One has recently decided to pick up the series for development.

The new series Showtrial, which is an on-going collaboration between BBC One and World Productions is a six-part series described as a kind of murder mystery. According to Deadline, the premise of the series is set to be about “two worlds collide[ing] in a fictional legal battle” between two opposing sides. One side of the legal battle will be about a character named Talitha Campbell, who as the daughter of a wealthy entrepreneur is being investigated due to the disappearance of a student peer, Hannah Ellis. Hannah, who unlike Talitha, is brought up by her “hardworking single mother” who on the other side of the battle wants answers regarding her daughter unexplainable departure. The series will jump back and forth between storylines to find out the truth behind what really happened to Hannah and whether or not her disappearance resulted in some type of plot for murder by Campbell or something less mischievous.

The shows premise is set to emphasize on the themes of “wealth, politics and prejudice” around judicial system pertaining to high profile and publicize cases such as the one within the series. World Productions CEO Simon Heath stated “It’s great to be working again with Ben Richards, who uses the DNA of our true-crime obsession to create a gripping fictional murder trial that shines a light on the failings of our justice system.” (The Hollywood Reporter)

Much information regarding the show is still under wraps and so far unfamiliar to many including cast and crew who are planning on working on the show as well as where they are set to film. An official set date for the shows beginning production and premiere date.
