BBC America Orders First Original Comedy Series ‘Almost Royal’

The seven-episodes series will focus on British aristocrats traveling to the U.S. for the first time and will premiere in June.

BBC America has announced that it has ordered its first original scripted comedy series. According to The Hollywood Reporter, the seven-episode series hails from Burning Bright Productions. The show focuses on Georgie (Ed Gamble) and  and Poppy Carlton (Amy Hoggart), the heirs to Caunty Manor, a large country estate in Norfolk, England, where they have enjoyed privileged lives as distant descendants of the British Royal Family.

The two of them have agreed to have a camera crew follow them on their unofficial tour of the greatest country on Earth – the USA. This road trip will offer the siblings  (who never worked a day in their lives) the chance to discover the world while commemorating their late father, Lord Carlton.

Almost Royal was developed in-house and is produced by Burning Bright Productions and distributed by BBC Worldwide. Chris Faith (Katy Brand’s Big Ass Show) and Marcus Liversedge (The Only Way is Essex) direct the series, while Clive Tulloh (Eddie Izzard: Marathon Man) and Seamus Murphy-Mitchell (Bug) will produce.

Almost Royal will debut on Saturday, June 21 at 10 p.m, following the season two finale of Orphan Black.
