‘Batwoman’ Crossover With ‘Superman and Lois’ Reportedly Cancelled

As it turns out, The CW’s plans for a crossover between Batwoman and Superman and Lois unfortunately won’t be coming to fruition, according to ComicBook. The CW Arrowverse has successfully pulled off several crossover events in the past and has garnered a huge following of fans by collecting several fan favorites and putting them on a mission together, but due to COVID-19 both series are playing it safe. If one team member or star were to contract COVID-19 then both shows would risk being halted and shut down for an unpredictable amount of time.

Batwoman star Javicia Leslie (Corina James, Always a Bridesmaid) released a statement regarding her disappointment on the subject “I’m so heartbroken about the COVID situation because I know that it’s Black Lightning‘s last season, and I would have loved to do a crossover with them,” Leslie told TVLine. Nafessa [Williams] and Jordan [Calloway] are really good friends of mine, and it would have been great to play with them and be superheroes all on the same show. That would have been epic,” Leslie stated according to ComicBook. Fans of the Arrowverse will undoubtedly be disappointed by this news because the potential for crossing stories over and having these characters meet is now slim to none.

With the recent departure of Legends of Tomorrow/Arrow Co-creator Marc Guggenheim the crossover events seemed to be hanging on by a thread. With COVID-19 risking the cast and crew’s safety and the introduction of a new Batwoman, this may turn out for the better. The shows will focus on developing their own stories instead of worrying about introducing a villain that both heroes have to face and defeat. This also avoids the need to reiterate information the audience have already ascertained just to keep all their characters on the same page. Like Kara (Melissa Benoist, Whiplash) meeting Leslie’s Batwoman for the first time, fans would have to endure hearing the same story over again before the heroes could trust each other. Overall, this decision may have worked out for the best and produce better narrative for both shows.
