Author Ned Vizzini Passes Away at 32

Author Ned Vizzini passed away on December 19 in New York after committing suicide; he was 32.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, the medical examiner confirmed the cause of death to the Los Angeles Times. Vizzini is the author of It’s Kind of a Funny Story, published in 2006 and adapted to the big screen in 2010 starring Zach Galifianakis and Keir Gilchrist. The novel finds a high school student admitted to a mental hospital after he attempts to commit suicide.

Other works by Vizzini include Be More Chill (2004), Teen Angst? Naah (2000) and The Other Normals (2012). He teamed with Chris Columbus, film director/producer, on the House of Secrets book series earlier this year. Sequel book, House of Secrets: Battle of the Beast, comes out March 25.

He wrote episodes for TV series Last Resort and Teen Wolf. He also worked on NBC’s upcoming Believe, a midseason drama from J.J. Abrams and Alfonso Cuaron.

Vizzini leaves behind a wife and son.
