Asif Ali, Saagar Shaikh to Star in Onyx Collective’s ‘Deli Boys’

 

Disney’s Onyx Collective has handed out a pilot order for comedy series Deli Boys, starring Asif Ali (WandaVision, Don’t Worry Darling) and Saagar Shaikh (Ms. Marvel), according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series will center around two Pakistani-American brothers who lose everything after their convenience store magnate father dies, and they are forced to reckon with their father’s secret life of crime as they inherit his role in the underworld, via The Hollywood Reporter

Asif Ali is set to play Mir Dar, the hardworking son eager to impress his father, and Saagar Shaikh is set to play Raj Dar, the entitled hipster who lives off his father’s millions, according to The Hollywood Reporter. The series will also include Aflie Fuller (The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel) as Raj’s shaman hipster who lives with him, via The Hollywood Reporter

Deli Boys is Onyx Collective’s latest project. Onyx Collective, led by Tara Duncan, is studio owned by Disney that focuses on underrepresented communities, such as communities of color, via Deadline.

Onyx’s originals are available on Hulu and include The Hair Tales: a docuseries about beauty and identity through the distinctive lens of Black hair, Reasonable Doubt: a series following character Jax Stewart as she juggles work, family, friends, and a complicated personal life as a brilliant and fearless defense attorney premiering on Nov. 1st, The Other Black Girl a 2023 series following an African-American editorial assistant who works at white NYC publishing firm, Unprisoned: a series following a single mom whose life is turned right-side-up when her dad gets out of prison and moves to her house with her and her teenage son, and The Plot: mini series starring Mahershala Ali about a struggling writing instructor who steals a genius idea for a novel from one of his students, according to The Hollywood Reporter.  

Deli Boys is currently in development and no premiere date is available.
