Apple’s NASA Drama ‘For All Mankind’ Spawning Companion Podcast

Ahead of the season two premiere, Apple has announced a companion podcast for its NASA drama, For All Mankind. According to The Hollywood ReporterFor All Mankind: The Official Podcast will debut on Friday, February 19. The second season premiere drops on the same day on Apple TV+.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Krys Marshall (Bull, Lesbian Cops), who plays Commander Danielle Poole in the show, will host the podcast. Through special guest interviews with former astronauts, space experts, and series stars, the podcast will do a deep dive into the history of the U.S. and space navigation. It will also extol behind-the-scenes secrets of how the series was made.

At Will Media will produce the 10-episode podcast, via The Hollywood Reporter. A new episode will be available every other week, coinciding with a release of a new episode of the series. Starring Joel Kinnaman (Hanna, Suicide Squad) as fictional astronaut Edward Baldwin, For All Mankind is an alternate take that imagines if the battle for space between the United States and the Soviet Union had continued after the USSR’s successful moon landing. Season two flashes forward to 1983 with both nations exploring the possibilities of militarizing their individual space programs.

Created and written by Ronald D. Moore (Battlestar Galactica, Outlander), Matt Wolpert (American Crime Story, Fargo), and Ben Nedivi (Wicked Little Things, Ralphie), the series also stars Michael Dorman (Patriot, Wonderland), Sarah Jones (Alcatraz, Justified), Wrenn Schmidt (Boardwalk Empire, Person of Interest), and Shantel VanSanten (The Flash, One Tree Hill). The show was renewed for a third season in December 2020.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, this latest podcast is part of bigger strategy for Apple to upgrade its current podcast app. Competition from both Spotify and Amazon has Apple forging a new plan to offer podcasts to pair with their original IPs. This includes podcasts for the immigrant anthology series, Little America, and the upcoming weekly series from Jon Stewart (The Daily Show with Jon Stewart, Irresistible). Last summer the tech company debuted podcasts from their established brands such as Oprah’s Book Club and the daily Apple News Today.
