Apple TV+’s ‘Mythic Quest’ Special, After-the-Pandemic Episode to Release April 16

A standalone episode of Apple’s game development workplace comedy Mythic Quest, set after the COVID-19 pandemic, is coming before the release of the second season, according to Deadline. The special, titled “Everlight,” is set for an April 16 release, three weeks before its second season’s debut on May 7.

“Everlight” will center around the development team’s return to the office after going into quarantine. Previously, in May 2020, Apple also released a Mythic Quest episode focused on the struggle early pandemic, titled “Mythic Quest: Quarantine,” and the episode raised over $500,000 for charity, according to The Hollywood Reporter.

Ahsly Burch (Life Is Strange), who stars in the series as game tester Rachel, wrote the episode. Rob McElhenney (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia), who co-created and stars in the show as creative director Ian Grimm, directed and executive produced the special.

McElhenney said the episode provides a positive outlook for the future.

“’Everlight’ is a special episode that addresses the practical and emotional difficulties of returning to normalcy,” McElhenney said, according to Deadline. “It’s full of hope and joy and optimism for a bright future. Ahead of our upcoming second season, we felt it was the perfect way (and the perfect time) to invite the audience back into the world of Mythic Quest.”

In addition to Burch and McElhenney, the cast also includes Charlotte Nicdao (Please Like Me) as Poppy, F. Murray Abraham (The Grand Budapest Hotel) as C.W., Imani Hakim (Cam) as Dana, David Hornsby (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia) as David, Jessie Ennis (Hits) as Jo and Danny Pudi (Community) as Brad.

After the return special, the team will once again begin work on a new expansion in season two.
