According to The Hollywood Reporter, Apple TV+ has renewed thriller series Slow Horses for a seventh installment. The renewal comes before the fifth installment has even aired on the streamer. The series was recently renewed for a six-season run in October 2024, following the conclusion of the fourth season. With the renewal, Slow Horses will extend its run as Apple TV+’s longest-running scripted series in terms of seasons. The fifth season of Slow Horses will air on Apple TV+ on September 24.
“Slow Horses has won fans all over the world with its unique mix of self-deprecating British humor and high-octane action. I’m delighted viewers will have another season to enjoy Gary’s magnificent performance as Jackson Lamb alongside the Slow Horses’ slightly inept spycraft,” said Jay Hunt (Beat the Burglar, Critical Condition), creative director for Europe at Apple TV+ via The Hollywood Reporter.
As per The Hollywood Reporter, Slow Horses follows a team of disgraced MI5 agents working in a department called Slough House, relegated to administrative purgatory due to their past failures. The team is tasked with mundane tasks while secretly hoping to redeem themselves as a way to return to the real MI5. Their world is complicated by internal power struggles, past mistakes, and the ever-present shadow of their more successful colleagues. The seventh season will be based on the eighth book by the author Mick Herron’s (Spook Street, Dead Lions) Slough House series.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, See-Saw Films produces Slow Horses. Jamie Laurenson (The Essex Serpent, State of the Union), Hakan Kousetta (The North Water, Heartstopper), Iain Canning (The King’s Speech, The Power of the Dog), Emile Sherman (The Stranger, Apple Cider Vinegar), Dan Hassid (Don’t Be Afraid of the Dark, The Lone Ranger), Herron, Gail Mutrux (The Danish Girl, Show Me a Hero), Douglas Urbanski (Darkest Hour, The Social Network) and Oldman executive produce. Ben Vanstone (A Gentleman in Moscow, All Creatures Great & Small) will adapt Bad Actors for season seven and also serve as EP. Robert McKillop (Ludwig, Guilt) will direct.
