Apple TV+ has announced today that their most recent critically acclaimed drama comedy series Shrinking has been renewed for second season. Starring Jason Segel (Forgetting Sarah Marshall, The Muppets) Harrison Ford (Indiana Jones: The Temple of Doom, Star Wars: A New Hope) and Jessica Williams (Entergalatic, Booksmart) the series follows a group of therapists as they explore an unorthodox approach to mental health care, via The Hollywood Reporter.
Jason Segel stars in this new comedy as a down on his luck, grieving therapist who goes against the status quo and his mentor, Harrison Ford’s, guidance. Segel, Bill Lawrence (Scrubs, Ted Lasso) and Brett Goldstein (Thor: Love and Thunder, Ted Lasso) co-created the series, which includes Jessica Williams, Christa Miller (The Andromeda Strain, Breaking In) ,Lukita Maxwell (Lucky Fish, Generation), Michael Urie (Single All The Way, Such Good People), and Luke Tennie (Deadly Class, We Were Meant To) among its cast.
The role marks one of Ford’s first TV series regular parts, joining Paramount+ Yellowstone offshoot 1923.
Segel’s character Jimmy’s dangerous, atypical, new approach to therapy is heavily motivated by his difficulty in dealing with his unfortunate loss of his wife, the therapist nevertheless ends up causing tumultuous changes to people’s lives, sometimes fixing traumas that regular therapy couldn’t. He does this by being brutally and transparently honest with his patients. Season one will conclude with its tenth episode later this month, and it has yet to be announced how many episodes season two will have.
In light of the season two announcement, Matt Cherniss, head of programming for Apple TV+, via The Hollywood Reporter, said, “We have loved the engaging, touching, and hilarious world of ‘Shrinking’ since the beginning, and it has been wonderful to watch as audiences around the world continue to connect with these big-hearted characters. We can’t wait for viewers to experience what the cast and creative team have for season two.”
