As Apple TV+ continues to expand their catalogue of content, they have given a series order to the television adaptation of The Big Door Prize. According to Variety, the novel, written by M.O. Walsh (author, The Prospect of Magic), will be adapted into a ten-episode comedy series for the streaming service.
The novel version of The Big Door Prize follows the residents of a small town as they discover their grocery store is home to a future predicting machine, via Variety. As the Deerfield citizens learn more about the mysteries within their home town, they gain an insight into they collective and individual destinies.
According to Variety, David West Road, an Emmy-winning producer on Schitt’s Creek, is set to serve as the showrunner and executive producer adapting the novel into the half-hour comedy series. Skydance Television will be producing the series in collaboration with the studio that brought Bong Joon-ho’s Parasite into the world, CJ ENM/Studio Dragon. This series marks the second collaboration between Apple TV+ and Skydance Television, as the upcoming Apple TV original drama, Foundation, is also being produced by Skydance Television.
Walsh, the author of the book on which the series will be based, tweeted about his excitement for Apple’s series order stating, “the dream is real”.
Earlier this week, Apple announced another book to series adaptation, The Shining Girls. Unlike The Big Door Prize‘s classification as a comedy, The Shining Girls is set to be a drama following Elisabeth Moss (The Handmaid’s Tale) in the lead role as a Kirby, a female reporter who survives a brutal attack and goes on to identify and apprehend her assailant. In addition to starring as the lead of the series, Moss will be directing two episodes of the eight-episode drama, along with Michelle MacLaren (executive producer, Breaking Bad) and Daina Reid (director, The Handmaid’s Tale).
