According to Deadline, Apple has decided to raise the price of numerous of their subscriptions, including Apple TV+. Before the price change, Apple TV+ cost $6.99 a month and $69.00 for the full year. Now, the subscription to the streaming platform will cost $9.99 a month and $99.00 a year. For existing subscribers, this change will be reflected in their next renewal date. For new subscribers, this price change takes effect immediately.
As Deadline notes, Apple spoke about Apple TV+, stating, “Since launching four years ago, Apple TV+ has made history for streaming services by crossing major milestones in a short span of time, thanks to its extensive selection of award-winning and broadly acclaimed series, feature films, documentaries, and kids and family entertainment.’
Apple continued to state that they are “focused on delivering the best experiences possible for our customers by consistently adding high-quality entertainment, content, and innovative features to our services.”
In addition to Apple TV+, Apple will be raising the prices for their other subscriptions. Apple News+, which gives subscribers access to over four-hundred fifty publications, was originally set at $9.99. Now, the price has increased to $12.99. Apple Arcade gaming will see an increase of two dollars as this subscription goes from $4.99 to $6.99. Apple One bundles, which include Apple TV+, Apple Music, Apple Arcade, and more, will see a price change in individual, family, and premium plans. Individual plans will move from $16.95 to $19.95, Family plans will move from $22.90 to $25.95, and Premium plans will move from $32.99 to $37.95.
Apple TV+ is not the only streaming platform to have hiked up their prices recently. In August, Disney+ also raised the cost of their ad-free subscription by three dollars. Throughout October, both Discovery+ and Netflix raised their prices. Specifically, Discovery+ raised the cost for their ad-free tier from $6.99 to $8.99. For Netflix, the price of a Basic plan increased from $9.99 to $11.99 while the Premium Plan increased from $19.99 to $22.99.
