MGM+’s Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue, the streamer’s upcoming limited original series, has shared that their cast is now complete, Deadline reports exclusively. The mystery thriller series was written, executive produced and created by Anthony Horowitz CBE (Alex Rider, Magpie Murders). Furthermore, BBC announced they bought the series’ rights, so the show’s production and filming in the Canary Islands is currently underway.
According to Deadline, Eric McCormack (Travelers, Perception, Will & Grace) was announced first as part of the ensemble cast for the series. Now, the complete cast includes Lydia Wilson (The Swarm, Flack, About Time) as Sonja, Peter Gadiot (Yellowjackets, One Piece, Once Upon a Time In Wonderland) as Carlos, David Ajala (Star Trek: Discovery, Falling Water, Kill Command) as Zack, Ólafur Darri Ólafsson (The Tourist, Trapped, The Deep) as Travis, Adam Long (Happy Valley, The Kill Valley, Wolfe) as Dan, Siobhán McSweeney (Derry Girls) as Lisa and Jan Le (The Capture, Starlets, Here and Now) as Amy.
According to Deadline, Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue focuses on a flight that crashes in the Mexican jungle. The bodies are then found and placed in the morgue for families to mourn them. However, the plot twist is that only one individual passed away in the plane crash; everyone else was brutally murdered in unique yet different ways. The story provides many flashbacks, which show viewers the story of these survivors, who had to survive in the jungle with each other in a web of betrayal and lies. Everything becomes thrilling and unsettling, as the story brings the viewers closer to unfolding the mystery. Furthermore, an astonishing reveal is brought to surface in the end.
As reported by Deadline, Michael Wright, Head of MGM+, shared an exclusive statement about the series reading, “Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue, is a clever and wildly entertaining addition to MGM+’s growing slate of cinematic, edge-of-your- Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue, according to Deadline, is produced by a company under Sony Pictures Television, named Eleventh Hour Films. SPT will be the company that administers the international distribution of the series. Lastly, the show is executive produced by Eve Gutierrez (Alex Rider, New Blood, The Killing Kind) and Jill Green (The American, Selkie, Deadly Summer) for Eleventh Hour Films. As reported by Deadline, Sue Deeks, Head of BBC Programme Acquisition, shared a statement about the series, which reads, “Nine Bodies in a Mexican Morgue is an ingenious, original and suspenseful murder mystery multiplied by nine! It is absolutely guaranteed to keep viewers riveted to their screens until the very end.”
Green, who is also the CEO of Eleventh Hour Films, said, via Deadline: “We are thrilled to have assembled a global cast that will bring total authenticity to this original drama.”
