Sara Ramírez has joined the cast as a series regular in And Just Like That…, the upcoming Sex and the City reboot at HBO Max. Ramírez will be portraying Che Diaz, a non-binary stand-up comedian using they/them pronouns who also runs a podcast that features frequent guest, Carrie Bradshaw, as reported by Indiewire.
The series released a full character description picked up by Indiewire: “Che is a big presence with a big heart whose outrageous sense of humor and progressive, human overview of gender roles has made them and their podcast very popular.” As Samantha Jones, portrayed by Kim Cattrall (Filthy Rich), will not be returning to the reboot, Ramírez is sure to fill her shoes as the group’s resident joke maker.
Ramírez is best known for their work on the ABC series Grey’s Anatomy, playing Doctor Callie Torres for over ten years in the span of eleven seasons. Additionally, Ramírez also won a Tony Award for Best Actress in a Musical for their portrayal as the original Lady of the Lake in Spamelot on Broadway.
Taking to Instagram on Wednesday, Ramírez shared the news of being cast in the upcoming Sex and the City reboot with a photo of a script titled “And Just Like That…”. Take a look at Ramírez’s full post below:
Michael Patrick King (The Comeback), an executive producer on the series, released a statement on Ramírez’s casting picked up by Indiewire: “Everyone at ‘And Just Like That…’ is beyond thrilled that a dynamically talented actor such as Sara Ramírez has joined the ‘Sex and the City’ family. Sara is a one-of-a-kind talent, equally at home with comedy and drama — and we feel excited and inspired to create this new character for the show.”
And Just Like That… will see the return of Sarah Jessica Parker (Divorced) as Carrie Bradshaw, Cynthia Nixon (Ratched) as Miranda, and Kristin Davis (Jack and Jill) as Charlotte. The original series ran on HBO from 1998 through 2004. The official synopsis for the series, picked up by Indiewire, states: “[The series] follows Carrie (Sarah Jessica Parker), Miranda (Cynthia Nixon), and Charlotte (Kristin Davis) as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.”
