FX has released the official trailer for American Horror Story season 13, bringing several familiar faces and characters back to the horror anthology. According to Deadline, American Horror Story season 13 premieres September 24 at 9 p.m. ET on FX and will also be available on Hulu.
The trailer opens with the line, “Welcome to the greatest show on earth,” before offering a new look at the upcoming season. Jessica Lange (Feud, Tootsie), Sarah Paulson (Ratched, The People v. O. J. Simpson) and Evan Peters (Dahmer – Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story, Mare of Easttown) are among the returning stars, with all three reprising multiple roles from previous seasons.
The new trailer follows an earlier teaser that put Twisty the Clown, played by John Carroll Lynch (Fargo, Zodiac), at the center of the footage. That teaser also brought back several recognizable characters from across the series.
Deadline notes that Emma Roberts (Scream Queens, We’re the Millers) appears as Madison Montgomery, while Lange returns as Constance Langdon. Angela Bassett (Black Panther, 9-1-1) is featured as Marie Laveau, Paulson appears as Cordelia Goode and Peters returns as Kai Anderson.
Other familiar faces include Gabourey Sidibe (Precious, Empire), Jamie Brewer (Turnover, The Walking Dead) as Addie Langdon and Mena Suvari (American Beauty, American Pie) as the Black Dahlia. Paul Anthony Kelly (Love Story: John F. Kennedy Jr. & Carolyn Bessette, Body Language) also appears with a new blonde look, although details about his character remain unknown.
The large cast also includes Kathy Bates (Misery, Matlock), Leslie Grossman (Popular, The Good Place), Frances Conroy (Six Feet Under, Joker), Tig Notaro (Star Trek: Discovery, Army of the Dead), Madelaine Petsch (Riverdale, Sightless) and John Waters (Hairspray, Pink Flamingos), among others.
As mxdwn previously reported, Ariana Grande (Wicked, Sam & Cat) was originally expected to join season 13 in an undisclosed role before dropping out because of scheduling conflicts. At the time, much of the season remained a mystery, with speculation that the returning cast could point toward a continuation of Coven. The new footage now provides a clearer look at how the season will pull characters and actors from across the anthology’s history together.
Season 13 will consist of thirteen half-hour episodes. Premiere week and week two will each feature three episodes, followed by two episodes every Thursday until the finale on October 29.
Ryan Murphy (Glee, Nip/Tuck), Brad Falchuk (Glee, 9-1-1) and Tim Minear (9-1-1, Feud) are among the executive producers. The series is produced by 20th Television.
