AMC To Produce The Final Season Of ‘Snowpiercer’

According to Deadline, after TNT dropped Snowpiercer, AMC has picked it up for it’s fourth season. This is expected to be the last season for the series.

According to Deadline, TNT had to scrap the show due to Warner Bros. Discovery’s content write-down strategy. AMC was able to acquire the rights to the Tomorrow Studios-produced series after this development.

Warner Bros. Discovery content write–down didn’t stop at SnowpiercerBatgirlDemimonde, The Big D, Chad and Kill The Orange Bear were all cancelled in the new move.

Snowpiercer isn’t the only series that AMC has saved from cancellation from another network. They recently bought Nautilus after it was cut by Disney+.

According to Deadline, the first three seasons of Snowpiercer will be available for streaming on AMC+ later this year, and season four will be available on AMC+ in early 2025.

Per the AMC logline, the series synopsis is: “Set more than seven years after the world has become a frozen wasteland, Snowpiercer centers on the remnants of humanity who inhabit a perpetually moving train, with 1001 cars, that circles the globe. The third season finale left a split of the train with Melanie Cavill (Jennifer Connelly) leading the Eternal Engine and those passengers who chose to stay aboard Snowpiercer for relative safety, and Andre Layton (Daveed Diggs) leading the others on Big Alice who chose to adventure to the unknown, outside world of New Eden.”

Snowpiercer is based on Bong Joon-ho’s (Parasite, Memories of Murder) 2013 movie and became the number one new scripted drama on all of ad-supported cable in 2020. The series stars Daveed Diggs (Hamilton, Blindspotting), Rowan Blanchard (The Goldbergs, Girl Meets World), Jennifer Connelly (A Beautiful Mind, Hulk), Roberto Urbina (Narcos, Che: Part One), Katie McGuinness (Roots, The Borgias), and Iddo Goldberg (Peaky Blinders, The Zookeeper’s Wife). The fourth season brings Michael Aronov (The Drop, The Americans) and Clark Gregg (Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Avengers) as new additions.

The show is executive produced by Christoph Schrewe (Mr. Robot, City on a Hill), new showrunner Paul Zbyszewski (Lost, Helstrom), Matthew O’Connor (Roxanne, Alice), Scott Derrickson (Doctor Strange, Sinister), Adelstein and Clements of Tomorrow Studios, and Ben Rosenblatt (Prey, The Alienist), and the original film’s producers, Joon-ho, Jinnie Choi (Coma, In the Big House), Miky Lee (Parasite, The Chaser), Dooho Choi (Okja, The Last Godfather), Tae-hun Lee (Lady Vengeance, The Man from Nowhere), and Park Chan-wook (Thirst, The Handmaiden).

In a statement by Ben Davis, EVP of original programming for AMC Networks and AMC Studios, he said “Snowpiercer is an edge-of-your-seat thrill ride with a loyal fanbase – similar to the passionate fandoms we serve across our biggest franchise series – and a welcome addition to AMC and AMC+. We look forward to giving viewers an opportunity to binge the first three seasons later this year, in anticipation of the arrival of a remarkable fourth season helmed by Paul Zbyszewski and this stellar cast, which will premiere in 2025.”

Zbyszewski added, “We’re so thrilled the train has finally found a home, and we’re incredibly grateful to everyone at AMC and Tomorrow Studios for giving the fans of Snowpiercer a chance to enjoy season four with all the hard work this amazing cast and crew put into it.”
